Ansett Trust Grants for Children and Youth

Grants to support children and youth in Victoria are available from the charitable trust established by airline icon, Sir Reginald Ansett.
This year the R.M. Ansett Trust says it will fund more than $200,000 worth of general grants for charitable organisations that provide services to children and young people.
Sir Reginald Myles Ansett (1909-1981) was a well-known Australian businessman, aviator, and philanthropist, best known for founding Ansett Airlines. The R.M. Ansett Trust was established through his will with the aim of “assisting children to take their place in life”.
The Trust has a grants program and funds social equity scholarships at three independent schools and at Swinburne University for a student studying aviation.
“We welcome applications from a wide range of organisations,” the Head of Philanthropy at Equity Trustees Ltd, the trustee of the R.M. Ansett Trust, Tabitha Lovett said.
“Last year, the R.M Ansett Trust awarded 10 grants totalling $300,000 to charities assisting children. Grants included the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation for a tutoring program, Fight Cancer Foundation for a program to help children with cancer keep connected to their school and education whilst undergoing treatment, and Scope Australia for a mobility program for children with cerebral palsy.
“In 2013, the R.M. Ansett Trust is particularly interested in supporting organisations that work with children and youth in the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston areas.
“Sir Reginald lived in Mt Eliza with his family for many years and throughout his lifetime supported a number of charities and schools in the local area.
“The Trust has continued this support by funding social equity scholarships at The Peninsula School and Toorak College and, through the grants program, aims to also achieve improved social outcomes for young people living locally.”
Grants generally range from $10,000 to $40,000 and to be eligible, applicants require ATO Charity Tax Concession (TCC) endorsement.
Equity Trustees currently manages more than 200 charitable trusts with about $450 million in funds under management. The R.M. Ansett Trust, which distributes around $1 million annually through grants and scholarships, is one of the largest charitable trusts managed by the company.
