CPA Australia, in partnership with Pro Bono Australia, is offering qualified accountants the opportunity to add value to the community through a new Not for Profit ‘Mentor the Treasurer’ program.

Through this unique program, qualified CPA Australia members are able to volunteer their time and expertise to small Not for Profit organisations’ treasurers needing guidance and support in their roles.

More than 150 CPAs have already signed on to take part in the ‘Mentor the Treasurer’ initiative.

As a Not for Profit organisation participation in the program offers treasurers the opportunity to benefit from CPA Australia members’ professional support and guidance which in turn enables the acquisition of new skills and knowledge to fulfil the requirements of the treasurer’s role.

No matter what the CPA’s background, from government accountants to hospital accountants, any practicing CPAs can sign on to the ‘Mentor the Treasurer’ program says Geoff Woods, a Former President of CPA Australia's WA division.

“CPA Australia will provide the resources to members to assist them in helping out those small Not for Profits that join the program.

“As a CPA Australia member, participation in the program offers the opportunity to share expertise and benefit from the rewards of being involved in a Not for Profit organisation,” he said.

“Mentoring eager people is a very rewarding experience,” according to CPA mentor Lindsay Doig.
“Helping to expand their knowledge, giving them the confidence to tackle more challenging tasks, and watching them develop and enjoy a previously-daunting role gives me, as a mentor, at least as much satisfaction as my mentees have enjoyed."
Small volunteer-run organisations and small Not for Profits with five or less staff or an annual income of less than $100,000 are eligible to join the program.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for smaller not for profits to access skilled professionals expert in financial matters,” Pro Bono Australia Founder, Karen Mahlab said.

“Financial skills are key to taking advantage of opportunities and complying with governance issues.”
