Jeanne Pratt Named Victorian of the Year

The partnership will work with 100 high school students in regional Victoria, assisting them with the costs of text books, uniforms and tutoring as part of The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.
The Smith Family Victorian General Manager Anton Leschen said The Smith Family was pleased the new partnership would provide support for the education of young people in need in regional Victoria.
“The generous assistance of The Pratt Foundation will allow The Smith Family to provide a range of learning support to 100 young people in regional Victorian communities during their secondary school years, ensuring they can reach their potential and create a better future,” Leschen said.
“It is a testament to Jeanne’s generosity and vision that she has chosen the occasion of this award to make a commitment to helping young Victorians to transform their lives through education.”
In her acceptance speech, Pratt, a former journalist, spoke of how education changed her life, and shaped her future.
She also encouraged more people to engage in philanthropy.
Pratt launched The Pratt Foundation with her late husband and entrepreneur, Richard in 1978.
It is now one of the Australia’s largest philanthropy organisations.
22-year-old Nicholle Hussey was named Young Victorian of the Year for her work with youth suicide prevention group In 2 Life.
The Victoria Day Awards recognise people who have made a significant contribution to the community in areas including the arts, commerce, sport and general public life.
