The categories include Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year or Australia’s Local Hero.
This year’s Australian of the Year, Ita Buttrose said meeting her fellow award finalists in January reinforced the importance of the awards.
“It reminded me just how many extraordinary people we have in Australia making a difference in the community,” she said.
“I think it’s important to recognise the achievements of everyday people, many of whom are very humble about what they do,” Ms Buttrose said.
"Many of the finalists had stories of achievement that none of us would have been aware of unless they had been brought to national attention through the awards. I like the way the awards shine a spotlight on these remarkable quiet achievers.”
Nominations award categories:
- Australian of the Year;
