The Legal Services Board in Victoria has announced it has appointed board member Fiona Bennett as its new Chairperson.
The announcement was made by Victorian Attorney-General Robert Clarke.
Bennett has served as a member of the Legal Services Board since 2008. She is currently Deputy Chair of Alfred Health, a Trustee of the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust and a Director of several public companies.
Clarke said that Bennett has contributed “extensively” to the Government and Not for Profit sector over her 35-year career.
“Ms Bennett brings to the position of Chairperson a wealth of corporate governance, regulatory and financial experience,” Clark said.
Bennett is a member of the audit and risk committees of a number of public sector and Not for Profit organisations.
She has held senior positions in organisations including the Coles Group, Australian Red Cross Blood Service and BHP Billiton.
Bennett’s appointment follows the resignation of previous Chairperson, Colin Neave, following his appointment as the Commonwealth Ombudsman.
The Legal Services Board is an independent statutory authority, responsible for regulation of the legal profession in Victoria.
“I congratulate Ms Bennett on her appointment and wish her every success in her new role,” Clarke said.
