There are two weeks to go until nominations close for the HESTA Community Sector Awards.
Along with Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), HESTA will present the community awards, described as the first ever community sector awards held in Australia.
ACOSS says that the awards will celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations operating within the community service sector.
“For the first time individuals and organisations working within the community service sector across Australia will have the opportunity to be recognised for the contribution they are making to improve the lives of those experiencing poverty and inequality. We encourage you to nominate someone, yourself or your organisation,” ACOSS president Simon Schrapel said.
Nominations for three categories – Social Impact, Organisation and Unsung Hero – are being sought to recognise the work of people who are making a difference to social justice in Australia.
ACOSS also recently announced the judges for the awards, which will be held in March this year.
- Mick Gooda, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission
- Noel Mundy, State Director – Tasmania, Mission Australia
- Susan Pascoe, Commissioner, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission
- Cath Smith, Director of Social Performance, Futureye
Finalists will be flown to Adelaide and receive a complimentary day registration to the ACOSS while the winners in each of the three awards categories will win $10,000 in prizes.
The Awards will be presented at a gala conference dinner hosted by author and lecturer Jane Caro on the first night of the ACOSS National Conference 2013 being held in Adelaide on March 25 & 26.
