Developing a NFP Consultation Code
11 October 2012 at 9:06 am

Not for Profits are being asked to take part in workshops across the country to help develop a Consultation Code as part of the National Compact.

The National Compact was signed in March 2010 and outlines the principles through which the Commonwealth Government and the NFP sector can work together to address the challenges facing Australians.

The NFP Reform Council was also appointed in December 2010 to provide advice on the implementation of the NFP reform agenda, and to also lead the development of a Consultation Code.

This Code will sit under the National Compact and will be a practical and operational guide to establishing a more effective way of consultation.

An online survey was undertaken in early 2012 to determine the main issues that should be addressed in the Code.

Workshops are being held from 17 October to 1 November in all capital cities to gain further insights from the NFP sector.

The workshops will have four sessions:

1. Overview of the National Compact, what has been achieved to date, and details of the broader NFP reform agenda;

2. Breakout session – the current barriers to good consultation;

3. Breakout session – current consultation practices that work well;

4. Drafting of recommendations for how both the Government and the NFP sector can do things differently.
