Not for Profit organisation Relationships Australia Queensland has received $6 million in funding from the Federal Government to expand its national Family Relationship Advice Line services.

The Attorney-General Nicola Roxon said that the Information and Advice service, originally run by the Federal Government’s Department of Human Services, will provide a “vital service” for Australian families going through separation or facing relationship difficulties.

Currently Relationships Australia Queensland provides the Telephone Dispute and Online Dispute Resolution component of the Advice Line.

A free national telephone service, Advice Line provides information and referral services to assist families around Australia.

"Over the past six years, almost 500,000 Australian families have benefited from having someone at the end of the line to talk to about family conflict or relationship problems," Roxon said.

"This is practical assistance for Australian families going through a tough time.”

Relationships Australia’s Chief Executive Shane Klintworth said the organisation was “excited” to take on the Information and Advice component of the Advice Line.

"We have over 60 years of experience supporting families and relationships, and look forward to the opportunity to provide support on a national basis," Klintworth said.

In Queensland, Member for Moreton Graham Perrett said it was great to see a local organisation providing an important service to the nation.

"Relationships Australia Queensland does a great job supporting Queenslanders so I'm pleased that support can now extend to the rest of the country," Perrett said.

The Minister for Community Services Julie Collins said that DHS will continue to deliver the Information and Advice service until the transition to Relationships Australia Queensland is achieved.

“This means callers will continue to receive advice and support seamlessly through this change process," Collins said.
