Newly establishing peak body, Volunteering Australia has announced a new Acting Chief Executive who has a strong history of involvement in the sector.

Maureen Cane will take on the caretaker position, based in Canberra, to ensure a smooth transition for Volunteering Australia from Melbourne to its new location in the nation’s capital.

A member of the Volunteering ACT Team, Maureen has had over 15 years experience in senior management in the Australian Public Service and ACT Public Service, and over 13 years in the Community Sector.

Maureen is a member of several Boards and, over the last 10 years, her Ministerial appointments have included the Bushfire Taskforce, Shaping our Territory Working Group and the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council of Ageing.

President of the Board of Volunteering Australia Paul Lynch welcomed the appointment noting Maureen’s extensive experience in both the Government and community sectors.

“This is an exciting time for Volunteering Australia and as the national peak body for the advancement of volunteering, we are encouraged by this move and the opportunities it presents,” he said.

"As a Not for Profit organisation, we will continue to represent the diverse views and needs of the volunteering sector whilst providing public policy advice for Government, which will be made easier by positioning our office in Canberra.”
