ACNC Trains Staff Ahead of Launch

The teams that will be the face of Australia’s first independent charity regulator, the ACNC, have undergone comprehensive training in Melbourne ahead of its launch.

The ACNC says its Advice Services and Registration teams, which will be on the frontline of the new Commission, gained “valuable insights” into the Not for Profit sector during the training.

Ellona Selimi, Advice Services Officer, said that recurring themes in the training program were the diverse nature of the Not for Profit sector and the focus and commitment of charities to deliver their mission.

“We’ve had sessions with different charities, which are all doing inspiring work in the community. Each of them faces a range of issues but the one thing they have in common is their focus on delivering their charitable purpose,” Selimi said.

“The guest speakers have helped me get a better understanding of the array of issues faced by different organisations and given me perspective on the work the ACNC will do – and how we can best help these types of organisations”.

The ACNC says that the program ranged from seminars with diverse sector representatives to cross-cultural training and workshops on charity law and the path to sector reform.

Selimi said that the insight she gained from the ACNC training program is already proving valuable and will help her to do her work to provide advice and respond to enquiries.

The ACNC was initially to be established on October 1, however, the legislation was delayed in the House of Representatives following resistance from the Federal Opposition.

The charity regulator is now expected to begin soon after the legislation to establish it passes through the Senate.
