Electronic funds transfer company, eftpos Australia, has closed applications for its 2012 $1million charity donation after an enormous community response.

eftpos says any submissions received after Tuesday 7th August will be included in next year’s Giveback campaign.

eftpos says it was inundated with some 43,000 votes after it announced its intention to donate $1 million dollars to charity and calling on Australians to nominate which worthy cause should receive the donation two weeks ago.

The company says that after hundreds of inquiries from charities and it has received 40 formal submissions.

Managing Director Bruce Mansfield says eftpos today closed applications for the 2012 Giveback campaign, but is happy to continue accepting proposals for 2013.

“Entries for 2012 were recently extended for several weeks following the release of a social media poll.

“Disability delivered a convincing 30% of the vote or 12,299 votes. This was followed in second place for a charity helping disadvantaged families and children with 8500 votes,” Mansfield said.

“There had been an incredible response to the campaign. We have received a large number of proposals and they are all worthy of our support,” Mansfield said. “Thanks to everyone who sent in proposals and voted in the survey.”

In two weeks eftpos is expected to announce who will be the charity partner for the eftpos Giveback campaign in 2012.
