Victorian employers committed to disability employment and workplace safety were recognised at the CRS Australia Victoria and Tasmania Employer Awards.

Minister for Human Services, Senator Kim Carr, congratulated the award recipients for their commitment to maintaining training and employment opportunities for Australians with a disability, injury or health condition.

"The winners' – and nominees' – commitment to providing employment opportunities to CRS Australia job seekers goes beyond the job itself," Carr said.

"It can change a person's life to have a job – especially where the employers value their people so highly, and create a safe work environment. It's what we would hope is one day available for every workplace, and every employee in this country."

BIG W, Big Garage (Bairnsdale) and Hire a Hubby (Hoppers Crossing) each won awards in the Large, Medium and Small Employer categories – recognising employers who provide sustainable employment opportunities for CRS Australia job seekers.

The Partnership award was won by Aegis Aspire for fostering a partnership that has led to accredited training, on-the-job training or employment placements for 18 local CRS Australia job seekers over the past year.

The Individual Achievement award was won by Meredith Hudson who after finding a job through CRS Australia at Campus Choice in Geelong, worked her way up to become manager, and has since shown great leadership promoting the employment of people with a disability.

The State Library of Victoria won the Workplace Safety award for their excellent record working with CRS Australia to prevent workplace injuries and improve injury management.

Last financial year, CRS Australia found over 14,000 jobs for people with a disability, injury or health condition and celebrated 70 years of service to the community.

CRS Australia is part of the Australian Government Department of Human Services. It provides disability employment and assessment services to people with a disability, injury or health condition; as well as recruitment, injury prevention and injury management services to employers.

CRS Australia Victoria and Tasmania Employer Awards were held at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
