The International Keynote Speaker at the Australian Chambers Business Congress Conference in Melbourne, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, has outlined the benefits of a “winner’s discipline” and the aura of success it brings.
The Harvard Business School Professor spoke to the conference delegates about how businesses can create innovation, growth and social good if they focus on their core values and foster an environment for team members to succeed.
“Winning is better than losing. It brings benefits that help with growing an organisation,” Kanter said.
“Those who experience success are more likely to feel more energetic and spread success to others.”
The role of leadership in corporate business, Kanter described the positive benefits that success and accomplishment can bring to a workforce.
“It brings benefits that help with growing an organisation, such as invitations to the best parties. Those associated with the aura of success get better connected to networks.”
The difference between winners and losers, Kanter says, is the solidarity between winning teams to get together and talk over their performance, their strengths and their weaknesses.
“If successful, teams are more likely to talk about mistakes. They feel they can afford to talk about mistakes because they feel like winners.
“Losers who most need to improve but are least likely to have these conversations about improving because it’s too threatening.”
“Optimists are more likely to listen to negative information because they feel they can do something about it to improve. Pessimists ignore this kind of advice and would rather pretend it doesn’t exist.
“Winning ultimately is about the ability to come back, be resilient and never give up."
"The goal for any company is to help people play above their level of skill."
The two-day Australian Chambers Business Congress Conference has attracted Business Leaders, CEOs, Senior Management Teams, Entrepreneurs and Thought Leaders from Australia and overseas.
