WA Government to Boost Funds to NFP Homeless Programs

The Western Australian Government will provide an additional $8.3 million dollars in funding to Not for Profit organisations involved in programs addressing homelessness in next week’s State Budget, the Premier, Colin Barnett has revealed.

Opening of the WACOSS Conference at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, Premier Barnett said the funds would be made available to 81 Not for Profit organisations to assist in supporting their homeless programs.

He said the funds would be announced in next week’s State Budget and reflect a 15% increase on last year’s funding to Not for Profits in this area.

The announcement was received with great applause from the hundreds of delegates attending the biennial conference with the theme of “The Big Picture”.

In 2011 the WA Government delivered a landmark State Budget with a 25% funding increase
of $600 million for the sector over four years to support sustainable service delivery by the
Not for Profit sector and address historical funding shortfalls that have emerged in service agreements with NFP providers.

The two-day WACOSS Conference will include a presentation by demographer Bernard Salt.

You can follow the conference on twitter with the hashtag #wacossconf
