Private investment management firm, Harper Bernays has appointed a specialist consultant to assist philanthropists to donate to charities.

David Ward will take up the position as Philanthropic Advisor, having experience in both the Not for Profit and financial sectors.

Executive Chairman of Harper Bernays, Peter Harper, said the company’s clients will benefit from Ward’s knowledge.

“We have many clients who are interested in charitable giving, but are unsure of the best way to move forward,” Harper said.

Ward is currently on the Treasurer of the Council of Philanthropy Australia as well as the Director of Australian Philanthropic Services. He also lectures at the Asia Pacific Centre for Social Investment and Philanthropy at Swinburne University.

“Now is the opportune time for more Australians to take advantage of effective tax structures and current tax laws to establish a model for giving which enables meaningful contributions, while changes in recent years mean that substantial structured giving during one’s lifetime has never been more attractive,” Ward said.

“Better investment performance will also mean there will be more money to give.”

Ward is the author of two books – Trustee Handbook: Roles and Duties of Trustees of Charitable Trusts and Foundations in Australia (2008) and the Private Ancillary Funds Trustee Handbook (2009).
