NFP Develops Free Australian Parenting App

A youth and family services charity has turned to technology to assist parents of adolescents by developing a free parenting App.
The Rosemount Good Shepherd Youth & Family Services has developed the Australian Parenting App for smartphones making it available for free download on the App Store and at Android Marketplace.
The Parenting App has been developed by Rosemount Good Shepherd’s team of Psychologists who have been working with adolescents and their parents since 1982.
It is designed to share that knowledge, tips and tools that experience has shown work best for parents dealing with the challenges of raising adolescents.
“One thing that struck us was the dearth of practical information available to parents struggling with the challenges of raising 9 – 24 year olds,” said Rosemount Youth & Family Services CEO, Lyn Harrison.
“For the most well adjusted, supportive families, adolescence can still be a turbulent time. For many parents, they can feel isolated and alone and come to question their abilities as parents,” Harrison said.
“We identified the need for this information to be made accessible and turned to technology to reach as many families as we could as cost effectively as possible.”
Harrison says the App was developed in response to the overwhelming popularity of the Rosemount Parenting Workshops.
“The Parenting App delivers parenting tools, tips and information to parents – when and where they need them – so they can be confident they’re making the right parenting decisions for their family.
“Parents will find information about: The stages of adolescence What parenting styles and communication techniques work How to keep a positive approach to discipline.”
Rosemount Good Shepherd Youth and Family Services were established in 1982 and operates under the auspices of the Good Shepherd Sisters who aim to address the social and economic exclusion of young people and their families without discrimination; to give them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
