“Keeping the Dream Alive” - Tribute to Prof Fiona Stanley

Former Australian of the Year and acclaimed medical researcher, Prof Fiona Stanley will be honoured at a special tribute event in Western Australia this month which also will promote a fundraising campaign to recruit top researchers to the State.
The theme of the tribute is “Keeping the Dream Alive”. For Prof Stanley, who retired at the end of 2011, the dream has been for Western Australia to be home to the brightest child health researchers who would ask and find the answers to the big child health questions.
The tribute is being organised by The West Australian and Channel 7 Telethon. It will be opened by Chris Wharton, CEO Seven West Media, with Seven boss, Kerry Stokes giving a tribute address on Thursday 10 May at Burswood as part of The West’s Leadership Matters series.
The Fiona Stanley Tribute is the the culmination of a fundraising campaign for Telethon which aims to raise $1 million. The funds will be directed to the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research. Wesfarmers and Apache Energy have both made leadership gifts of $100,000 to the campaign.
The funds raised will be used by the Institute to identify, attract and develop the next generation of West Australian child health research leaders.
Named Australian of the year in 2003 and honoured as a National Living Treasure by the National Trust in 2004, Professor Stanley AC has made an extraordinary contribution not only to health and wellbeing of West Australian children but to children throughout the nation and beyond after a medical career spanning 41 years.
