Grants Available Under Youth Development Scheme

Grants totalling $500,000 are now available under the Youth Development and Support Program for organisations helping young Australians prepare for further study or work.
The Minister for Youth, Peter Garrett has called on interested organisations to apply for up to $70,000 in funding to deliver projects which foster the talents of young people aged 12 to 25.
“The Youth Development and Support program will this year focus funding on projects under the theme ‘Ready for further study and work’,” Garrett said.
“We are looking for eligible non-government and Not for Profit organisations which provide young people with the skills they need to go on to further study, training or to enter the workforce.
“This is a terrific program, which supports youth-led projects that inspire young people to find practical and creative opportunities in their local area.
“Since 2009, 86 organisations have received funding under the program, supporting more than 127,000 young people to develop skills and connections in their communities,” Garrett said.
The Foundation for Young Australians’ ‘How Young People are Faring 2011’ report, found a rise in unemployment among young people and a decline in the stability of full time employment since the global financial crisis.
“We know young people are the first to be disadvantaged by economic instability and are among the last to recover, which is why the Gillard Government is committed to supporting programs which arm young people with the skills and knowledge they need to prosper,” Garrett said.
Organisations have until Friday 1 June 2012 to submit an application for funding.
