The popular online auction website, eBay, has acquired MissionFish, the Not for Profit behind eBay's Giving Works program.
MissionFish has been acquired by eBay from the Points of Light Institute.
Sean Milliken, Founder of MissionFish says the organisation has powered eBay Giving Works for the past eight years, breaking new ground in philanthropy and raising almost $250 million for U.S. and UK Not for Profits.
Milliken says by bringing the team and the technology inside the eBay family, they will be able to grow their impact for the Not for profit sector even faster.
He says the move is a strong endorsement by eBay of their program and of the idea that a global company can deliver a dramatic social impact through their products and properties.
He says in addition to bringing their seasoned social entrepreneurs in-house, eBay is investing their money, their people and their brainpower into their mission.
Initially Mission Fish will continue to work with Points of Light to process and deliver U.S. donations but eventually a new Not for Profit staffed by members of the MissionFish team, will be responsible for donation handling.
The eBay Giving Works program allows sellers to give proceeds from their sales to a favorite Not for Proft, and helps NFPs raise funds by selling on eBay too. Not for Profits can also receive donations from eBay users through the Donate Now feature, which lets anyone with a PayPal account donate right away – without buying or selling anything.
