Australian Social Enterprise Stories

The Centre for Social Impact and Parramatta City Council in NSW have launched ‘Australian Social Enterprises: Stories of Challenge’, a new book which aim to share learning between Australia’s social entrepreneurs.
The book is authored by CSI academic and former politician Cheryl Kernot and Joanne McNeill, the Community Capacity Building Officer Social Enterprise at Parramatta City Council and
is a vehicle for Australian social enterprise practitioners to tell their stories.
Social enterprises are businesses trading for social, environmental and/or cultural purposes and, as a business model, are gaining attention globally, particularly in the UK, Canada and the US.
The book provides a snapshot of perspectives from Australian social entrepreneurs on their own and their organisations’ experiences.
It is based on face-to-face interviews with thirty-three organisations between September 2009 and February 2010 were conducted in researching the book.

The book was launched by the Minister for Human Services and Social Inclusion, Tanya Plibersek, at an event in Sydney on April 5th, 2011.
The book will soon be available from the Parramatta City Council website or from the Centre for Social Impact website.
