Mapping Social Enterprise in Tasmania

A joint initiative between the Tasmanian Government and University of Tasmania will study social enterprise on the Apple Isle.
The Tasmanian Social Enterprise Study is a stock-take of activity that researchers hope will guide the development of the social enterprise sector in Tasmania and nationally.
Research Associate at the University of Tasmania, Kylie Eastley says many organisations working in the social enterprise sector are making an impact on the social, economic and cultural well-being of Tasmanians but it’s relatively unknown and unrecognised.
Eastley says any organisation or business that has a mission to create public or community benefit and conducts some kind of regular trading activity – regardless of whether they identify themselves as a social enterprise – is invited to complete the survey.
She says the study will enable a deeper understanding of who is in the sector, how they are operating and what they need to tap into future opportunities as a first step to a more coordinated approach to supporting social enterprise in Tasmania.
Results of the study will be publicly available by mid-2011.
The survey has 20 questions and should take 15-20 minutes to complete. All participants will go into the draw to win one of 3 prizes from a Tasmanian social enterprise.
