The Op-Shop Goes Digital
20 January 2011 at 12:39 pm

Online shopping and charity op-shops usually sit at opposites end of the retail spectrum, but that’s all about to change as the Salvation Army launches its first online store.

The strong Aussie dollar and changing consumer behaviour means that online shopping is going through the roof in Australia and the Salvos are looking to engage with online shoppers.

Salvos general manager Neville Barrett told AAP he believes the website is the first of its kind in Australia.

He says the online store means that Australians will be able to access hundreds of unique items from Salvos stores across the country.

AAP says the website was the brainchild of community members who said an online store would save them the hassle of trawling through clothing rails.

Barrett says it's important that Salvos Stores are relevant and accessible within all communities across Australia.

The online store appears to be a ‘best-of’ Salvos store, featuring high-quality, boutique and rare items, such as vintage dresses and crockery, and prices range from $2 right up to $1,250 for a rare, bass harmonica.

Visit the Savlos Stores online at www.salvos.org.au/stores. All online purchases made before April 19 will be delivered free.
