Excellence in organisational performance by Australian Not for Profit organisations has been recognised in the 2010 Givewell Good Giving Charity Awards .

The Australian Wildlife Conservancy took out the Best Practice Not for Profit Award and Starlight Children’s Foundation – Livewire Project won the Best Community Project Award.

Finalists for the awards were selected from 76 submissions and were chosen on the applicant’s transparency and accountability, and its ability to deal with a significant social problem.

The Winners (with commentary from Givewell):

Australian Wildlife Conservancy

Givewell says AWC has developed a best practice approach to delivering practical on-ground programs, based on the best available science targeting feral animals, weeds and inappropriate fire regimes. With over 20 sanctuaries covering more than 2.7 million hectares, AWC manages and owns more conservation land than any other nonprofit in Australia, effectively working at the front-line in the battle for the survival of endangered Australian wildlife. The organisation demonstrates effective communication, and is transparent in its financial reporting and governance details. Click here to view their profile.

Starlight Children's Foundation – Livewire project

Livewire.org.au is an internet site that supports seriously ill children through chatrooms and entertainment in a protected environment. Unique to this project is the innovative safety net that is provided for the children who use the website. Funding for the project was obtained from a broad range of supporters and through partnerships with other organisations. Livewire has become a valuable source of information for children with a wide range of serious health issues. The organisation can quantify its outcomes through registrations and surveys that are conducted regularly. Click here to view their profile.
