Perpetual Announces Annual Funding

Foundation fund manager, Perpetual, has announced its annual national funding round providing over $9 million from its discretionary trusts to 200 organisations across Australia in areas such as arts and culture, health conservation & environment, social welfare, education and medical research.
Victoria has received the largest amount in grants totaling $4.9 million, followed by NSW with $1.9 million.
More than 900 NFPs applied for funding nationally and were assessed against the parameters of strategy, outcomes, capability and leadership.
Andrew Thomas, Perpetual’s General Manager, Philanthropy, says that organisations granted funding were able to identify measurable outcomes and communicate how they managed their organisations efficiently and effectively.
Thomas says Perpetual's analysis reveals that smaller charities with limited resources can be as successful as large organisations when applying for funds.
He says the NFPs that were awarded funding were not only able to devise innovative programs, but measure their outcomes and articulate their value proposition.
He says one organisation, FareShare, which provides meals to the homeless community in Victoria, for example, was able to clearly articulate how its funds would be allocated and the impact it would have at being able to provide 1 million meals pear year, compared with the current 400,000.
Queensland received over $1.5 million, South Australia received over $230,000 and Western Australia received over $400,000 from trusts managed by Perpetual through its annual funding round.
Perpetual is one of the largest managers of private charitable foundations in Australia, with over $1 billion in funds under management, as at 30 June 2010. Perpetual is trustee of more than 450 charitable trusts distributing more than $40 million each year on behalf of the charitable trusts it manages.
Not for Profit organisations were able to apply from 2 November 2009 until 5 February 2010 to be considered in Perpetual’s 2010 funding round. For further information, go to www.perpetual.com.au/philanthropy
