Not for Profit websites take out honours in annual Webby Awards

UK based Teenage Cancer Trust and Make It Right, a US organisation working to rebuild New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, were the Not for Profit winners at the 14th Annual Webby Awards.

Described as the “Internet’s highest honour” by the New York Times, The Webby Awards honour excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile web sites.

Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer, took home the Webby for Charitable Organisation/Non-Profit.

The Make It Right Foundation won the Webby awards for Activism. The Foundation was started by actor Brad Pitt to build 150 affordable, green, high-design homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward, a neighbourhood devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The Webby Awards were established in 1996, and today awards are given across nearly 70 categories, rewarding best practice and innovative design, usability and functionality.
