Chris McMillan, Chief Executive Officer, Fundraising Institute Australia

 Chris McMillan was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Fundraising Institute Australia in late February 2009. Chris has a depth of expertise in peak body and member-based not for profit organisations drawn through senior executive roles with the Australian Institute of Management, Australian Business Limited, Securities Institute Australia and the Financial Planning Association. Previously CEO, of Variety, the Children’s Charity (NSW) she has a keen focus on supporting organisations in the practice of ethical fundraising practices.

How did you end up here?

Having worked extensively in the not-for-profit sector for many years most recently as CEO of a children’s charity the next logical step was with the role with FIA – the role brings all my skills together.

What is the best thing about working in the third sector?

Genuine people and genuine causes

What drew you to the charitable sector?

I wanted to go to work each day knowing that in some way I had contributed to the betterment of others less fortunate.

If you could be or do anything else, what would it be?

A professional student – I love learning new things!

What gets you up in the morning?

The wonder of what the day will bring – plus I am an avid runner so the desire to experience the best part of the day in the early morning makes it an early start each day.

Nancy Wake aka “The White Mouse” – one of the bravest women to fight in World War Two – during the war she worked as a highly trained spy assisting many to their freedom.
