Sydney Leadership Program

Social Leadership Australia , described as a major force for positive social change in Australia, is again calling for applicants for the 2010 intake for its award-winning Sydney Leadership program.
The thirty successful applicants will join the ranks of more than 350 graduates with hundreds of stories to tell of its power to create lasting positive impacts for individuals, for organisations and in the world.
Robbie Macpherson, head of The Benevolent Society’s Social Leadership Australia (SLA) says the success of the program is a result of its unique approach to leadership – one which squarely challenges the conventional idea of ‘true’ leadership and one which – unlike any other in Australia – employs a Harvard-inspired ‘adaptive leadership’ model for its delivery.
Macpherson says experience shows that true leadership is derived from a sharing of responsibility based on a profound questioning of individual, organisational and societal issues. It tells us that leadership is a set of skills that can be learned and it tell us that we can make a difference..
He says Sydney Leadership offers talented individuals from the corporate, Not for Profit and government sectors a learning experience over 10 months which combines experiential learning, contemporary theory and individual coaching through a series of retreats, workshops and seminars. Participants are exposed to a range of key social issues such as indigenous inequality, education, cultural diversity, the environment, poverty, mental health, homelessness, youth-at-risk and migrants and refugees.
94 per cent of participants report significant changes in their personal, professional and community lives as a result of their participation in Sydney Leadership.
The 2010 program will be launched at a free information evening in Sydney from 6.30pm on Tuesday , 8 September at St James Hall, Level 1, 169 Phillip Street, Sydney. RSVP 02 9339 8000 or www.bensoc.org.au .
