AbaF Funding Milestone
11 May 2009 at 5:20 pm
The Australian Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) has passed the $5 million dollar mark in donations received for the arts, with the money paid out in full to artists in the form of grants.
AbaF’s Communications Manager Nick Gadd says that although AbaF has existed since 2001, the majority of the funds have been donated since AbaF began promoting the fund in 2005.
AbaF is the only organisation in Australia that is allowed to use its deductible gift recipient status to receive gifts for granting on to artists and arts organisations. When arts supporters make tax-deductible donations to AbaF, they are able to express a preference for their donation to be paid to a particular artist.
AbaF CEO Jane Haley says that many people who donate to the arts are not doing it for a tax deduction. But she says a deduction may provide a ‘tipping point’ for a gift or mean they can donate more.
Haley thanks the supporters who have made donations for artists, saying they are helping to build and sustain the creative and cultural life of our nation and providing joy to audiences all across the country.
