FIA Releases New Draft Fundraising Standards

The Fundraising Institute – Australia (FIA) has released new draft fundraising standards for comment.
These are the draft Standard of Charitable Gaming Fundraising Practice and draft Standard of Grants Fundraising Practice for public consultation. FIA would like to invite comment on the new draft Standards of Fundraising Practice.
The FIA says professional fundraising needs to be driven by the highest standard of practice in order to protect the reputation of charities and to ensure public maintain their trust and confidence in the sector.
The draft Standard of Charitable Gaming Fundraising Practice, meets the challenge of dealing with so much varying legislation on charitable gaming practices. It does not aim to replicate or encode existing legislation, but to identify what is best practice based on both legislation and industry needs. It is to be read in conjunction with the appropriate legislation in a fundraiser’s State or Territory. It covers planning, promoting and conducting a charitable game, ticketing and ticket sales and prizes. It also contains a guide to the relevant State and Territory authorities and a model risk management assessment plan for the assistance of fundraisers.
The draft Standard of Grants Fundraising Practice breaks new ground by establishing a standard for members, whether individual or organisational, wishing to seek grants. It covers both practical advice, such as guidelines for grant applications, as well as ethical advice on conflict of interests and financial transactions.

FIA’s Board of Directors also ratified two new Standards – the Standard of Electronic Fundraising Practice and the Standard of Workplace Giving Fundraising Practice.
In 2008, six Standards have been ratified by the FIA Board, including the Standards of Fundraising Practice for Events, Bequests, Face-to-Face, Charitable Telemarketing and now Electronic Fundraising and Workplace Giving. Compliance with these Standards is mandatory for members.
