Workshop on Family Grantmaking - Discount for Our Readers
2 June 2008 at 12:39 pm

Swinburne’s Asia-Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment is holding a Melbourne workshop in June on effective personal and family grantmaking – offering a special discount for Pro Bono Australia readers.

When: Tuesday June 17, 2008, 10.00 am – 5.00 pm
Where: The Library, Abbotsford Convent, St Helliers Street, Abbotsford (Melway: 2D, C10)

Giving away money in a way that is effective – in that it makes a difference, and is satisfying to those whose money is being donated, is quite a challenge. Whether it is an individual giving away their own money, or members of a family seeking to reach agreement on their collective giving, the rewards can be huge – but so can the frustrations.

In this workshop you will hear tales from, and discuss these issues with, some of Australia’s leading philanthropists, and with some people who advise them. You will also learn from experts about vehicles and procedures which will simplify, and maximise the effectiveness of, your generosity.

This workshop will be of particular interest to newcomers to philanthropy, as well as to those who are now wishing to involve further generations of their family in their giving.

Sessions will include
– Why are family dynamics relevant to grantmaking?
– The nuts and bolts of personal grantmaking: vehicles for giving made easy
– The tricky bit: Decision-making
– Giving across generations
– A telling tale of family giving

Speakers will include
– Karen Loblay, founder of the Mantana Foundation
– David Ward, former CEO ANZ Trustees
– Andrew Blode, CEO Jack and Robert Smorgon Families Foundation
– Robin Hunt, CEO, The Sunshine Foundation
– Dr Toby Harfield, Research Fellow, AGSE, Swinburne University of Technology
– Dr Michael Liffman, Director, Asia-Pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment, Swinburne University

Pro Bono Australia readers will receive a 20% on the cost of the workshop. Download the registration form attached to this article.
