The Bible Society of Australia has launched a Bible for Aussie life savers- in honour of its 100 years of service in the Year of the Surf Life Saver.

The custom-made Bible is called the Life Saving Bible and includes the New Testament in contemporary English, with personal stories from 14 award-winning Aussie life savers.

Terry Legg, who has been an Australian Life Saver since 1955, came up with the idea for the Bible. As a Chaplain to Life Savers in Queensland for about 10 years he says they’re the greatest dedicated mob you’d ever hope to meet!

He says there are some really obvious parallels between the practical work that our Life Savers do and the spiritual themes in the Bible. For instance, he says he’s never had to explain about God’s salvation to a Life Saver because they already know how to save.

The bible Society says the response to the Life Saving Bible has been overwhelming, with more than half of the first 5,000 printed already sold and a re-print expected in June.

The Life Saving Bible is available through the Bible Society and online at
www.bible.com.au
