'Catalyst' To Promote Philanthropy Among Professionals

Promoting a culture of philanthropy among young professionals in Australia is paying off for the Sydney-based Not for Profit organisation Catalyst.

As it launches its fifth year, co-founder Simon Carter says his network has been able to provide opportunities for many young professionals to explore for themselves how they might contribute in society.

For Carter, the key is promoting leadership and engaging Sydney’s professionals in inspiring events with Australia’s great social leaders. In its brief history the Catalyst Network has so far hosted 60 events.

Catalyst’s Charity Team is a group of professionals who identify, develop and promote opportunities for participants to support a wide range of charity projects. So far, he says they have helped raise the lion’s share of $1million.

In his professional role, Simon Carter is National Leader of Innovation at the property services provider, Colliers International. He previously trained and practiced as an architect.

Carter says the organisation is rapidly expanding and it is now looking for more young professionals to take up volunteer management roles at Catalyst, including marketing, PR and sponsorship managers.

The 2007 Catalyst launch event is called Our New Social Consciousness and will take place on Wednesday 28th March at WatersEdge – right under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

A panel of some of Australia’s dynamic social thought leaders will discuss questions such as “is the nation now going to a new level of action on social and environmental issues; what is driving it and where are we going?”

The moderator will be award winning broadcaster Alan Saunders, presenter of ABC Radio National’s weekly Philosopher’s Zone.

The other panellists include the Founder of the Exodus Foundation, Rev. Bill Crews, the manager of Clean Energy Strategies at Origin Energy, Georgine Duncan, and Brett Solomon, the Executive Director of a new independent political movement called GetUp.

The event includes drinks, canapés and live entertainment. To find out more and book online for the Catalyst event go to www.catalystnetwork.com.au
