Sydney father, Ron Delezio has been nominated for an Australian of the Year Award for the way in which he has turned the tragic accident of his five year old daughter Sophie into a positive force of action through his Day Of Difference Foundation.

Ron is among the 1,000 nominations already received for Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero.

There is still a month to go until nominations close on 28 August, 2006.

Ron and wife Carolyn Martin established Day Of Difference after Sophie’s accident. The organisation acts as a health promotion charity to raise funds for paediatric burns patients as well as enhancing the quality of life for those survivors and their families by assisting with the advancement of skin research and educating the community through various awareness-raising programs and activities.

With one month to go until nominations close, Australian of the Year Awards Director Warren Pearson has urged the public to continue nominating people they admire and find inspiring.

He says Ron Delezio is a wonderful example of a great Australian doing great things and there are many others out there.

Nominations for Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero can be made online at www.australianoftheyear.gov.au or pick up a nomination form from any Commonwealth Bank or Holiday Inn.
