Philanthropy Australia Annual Conference

for community groups, Not for Profit organisations and charities to meet with, and better understand the world of philanthropy and grantmaking.
The theme is Explore the World of Australian Philanthropy and the day long seminar-style event will take place at the Hotel Sofitel in Melbourne on Sunday 9 October 2005.
This event is the first day of a four day International Philanthropy Conference which continues from Monday 10th October to Wednesday 12 October 2005.
Participants will hear from some of the biggest philanthropic foundations in Australia; including The Myer Foundation, The Pratt Foundation, the Foundation for Young Australians, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund and many others.
The seminar includes practical case studies on how to create, maintain and evaluate philanthropic relationships. The keynote address will be presented by Julian Burnside QC. He will discuss “Philanthropy, justice and a civil society”.
The second plenary session will look at The Future of Philanthropy with a distinguished panel facilitated by Genevieve Timmons.
Pro Bono Australia is also proud to be involved in this year’s Conference as we deliver the combined findings of our Think Tank surveys carried out of a six month period and involving a wide cross section of our readership.
The international conference on the following days is designed as professional development for philanthropists and grantmakers.
The theme of bringing grantmakers and grantseekers together will be continued at the Conference Dinner on Tuesday evening.
The conference will comprise a number of themes including: Corporate Philanthropy, Community Foundations, Private and Family Philanthropy, Social Capital, Ethical Investment (and investment policy generally), Grantmaker Affinity Groups, International Philanthropy in Australia, Becoming a Philanthropist, Evaluation of Philanthropic effectiveness, Legislative and Regulatory Frameworks.
Philanthropy Australia invites everyone who participates – or is thinking of participating in the philanthropic sector – to participate in Melbourne and contribute to a gathering which will make a difference to philanthropy in Australia.
The calendar thus far is:
Sunday – Philanthropy Expo Day
Monday – Private and Family Philanthropy
Tuesday – Community Philanthropy
Wednesday – Corporate Philanthropy
The conference dinner will be held on Tuesday evening.

2005 Equity Trustees CEO Awards
The 2005 Equity Trustees CEO awards are being held in conjunction with the Second International Philanthropy ‘A Wealth of Experience’ conference in Melbourne.
The ceremony itself will be held as part of the gala conference dinner at Rod Laver Arena on the evening of Tuesday, October 11 th starting at 7pm.
The principal speaker this year will be Professor Fiona Wood. Western Australia ‘s only female plastic surgeon is a mother of six, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital & Princess Margaret Hospital and Director of the Western Australia Burns Service. She is also co-founder of Clinical Cell Culture, a private company recognised in medical circles for its world-leading breakthroughs in the treatment of burns.
