Aged Care Awards Deadline
2 May 2005 at 1:05 pm

Dedicated individuals and organisations who make a positive difference to the lives of older Australians are to be recognised and rewarded through national awards that offer ongoing education opportunities and promote the benefits of a career in aged care.

There are just days left to nominate for the 2005 Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Aged Care.

The Federal Minister for Ageing, Julie Bishop, says aged care workers are a valuable asset to our nation, and to their community, dedicating their professionalism and care to our older Australians.

The awards recognise best practice and innovation in aged care, providing not only national recognition, but also a cash reward. Prize money this year totals $70,000 towards additional training opportunities for winners in six categories.

People who provide creative lifestyle activities for aged care residents, innovative catering, strong leadership and management and better training opportunities to improve qualifications and skills should apply.

The chairman of the judging panel for this year’s awards is businesswoman, author and former media executive Ita Buttrose. Other judges on the panel include experts in aged care practice, as well as high profile nutritionist Dr Rosemary Stanton and Aged Care Commissioner for Complaints Rob Knowles.

Nominations close 6 May 2005. More information, including nomination forms, is available at www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/publishing.nsf/Content/ageing-rescare-excellawd-2005.htm or by phoning 1800 500 853.
