ATO Guide On FBT for Not for Profits
21 February 2005 at 12:02 pm
The Australian Tax Office has produced an extensive guide for employers on Fringe Benefit Tax with a special chapter on Not for Profits.
If you are one of the following organisations, certain benefits that you (the employer) provide to employees receive concessional FBT treatment:
– public benevolent institutions (other than hospitals) and health promotion charities
– public and non-profit hospitals
– rebatable employers
– religious institutions, and
– non-profit companies.
Generally, benefits that Not for Profits provide to volunteers do not attract FBT.
The special chapter provides information specifically for
– Public benevolent institutions (other than hospitals) and health promotion charities
– Public and non-profit hospitals
– Rebatable employers
– Religious institutions
– Non-profit companies and
– Volunteers
The FBT Guide offers case studies and examples that Not for Profits can easily translate to their own employees.
If you would like an electronic version of the guide in WORD format just send an email with the words ‘ATO FBT 2005 Guide’ in the subject line to probono@probonoaustralia.com.au. (Please note this file will not include any graphics or images – they can be accessed online.)
