Pro Bono Australia’s successful online service Volunteer Match has forged a relationship with GE Women’s Network in Australia.
The relationship was launched at a special function in Melbourne this week. A group of senior women from the GE Women’s Network have signed up to Pro Bono Australia’s Volunteer Match service offering Not for Profits their professional skills.
The volunteers are based in both Melbourne and Sydney.
GE’s involvement in Australia dates back to 1882 when it installed one of the electric motors in Sydney to open the Pyrmont Bridge over the Darling Harbour.
Through the years the GE name has gained a market presence in Australia and New Zealand through Appliances, Aircraft Engines and Lighting.
In 1995, GE acquired the credit card business of Coles Myer – one of the largest non-bank credit card operations in Australia – and established GE Capital Global Consumer Finance in Australia.
Today, through acquisitions and divestitures, GE Australia and New Zealand operates through 25 businesses from Finance to Industrial Systems.
Claire Ferrier of the GE Women’s Network (GEWN) Executive Committee, says she hopes the relationship with Volunteer Match will assist GEWN in their undertaking of:
– High impact community assistance activities;
– Building upon Corporate Citizenship Values; and
– Providing opportunities to expand staff skills and leadership experiences, driving learning, confidence and self-worth.
The GE Women’s Network is a voluntary organisation with the mission of fostering professional women’s development to help grow, attract and retain successful women throughout GE.
This is achieved through a range of activities and events at individual and managerial levels.
Volunteer Match is a Pro Bono Australia website linking skilled professionals with Not for Profit organisations needing volunteer assistance.
An automated e-mail function advises volunteers when an organisation has posted a volunteer role that may suit them. The registration process is streamlined for both volunteers and organisations.
There are approximately 1200 skilled and professional volunteers registered with Volunteer Match Australia-wide. Volunteer Match is a free service to all using it.
