FIA CEO Retires

The Fundraising Institute of Australia farewells its retiring CEO Wayne Clarke this month recounting the strong legacy of his six year appointment.
National FIA director and treasurer, Lindsay May says Clarke arrived at a time of great change within the Institute including overseeing the restructuring of six separate state incorporated associations into one national body.
May says Clarke identified and proposed the purchase of its Chatswood office which proved to be a financial masterstroke.
The building debt was retired quickly and the FIA set up a separate fund to hold the equivalent of what would have been paid in annual rent so as not to lose sight of these expenses.
May says the proceeds are distributed as scholarships and similar projects as a lasting legacy to Wayne Clarke’s foresight.
Clarke has a diverse background comprising paramedical, academic, administration, consultation and management.
His fundraising experience commenced as Chief Executive of the NSW Society for Crippled Children in 1984 where among many achievements he planned the marketing of the May Gibbs characters as the copyright from her publications were partially left to the Society.
St Vincent’s Hospital was his next stop in 1989 as Development Director, then in 1995 became General Manager of the Victor Chang Institute.

Lindsay May says Wayne has brought to the FIA skills and experience that he has accumulated over the past 45 years that has enabled FIA to consolidate and mature.
May says he has set a path that will allow the institute to become recognised as the peak fundraising body in Australia.
Clarke joined FIA just prior to the 1998 Brisbane Conference and has accepted a contract as Conference Organiser for Brisbane 2005.
May says the last twelve months have put up some challenging health issues for Wayne so at 64, he and his wife Kerry are moving north to Queensland.
