Business-Arts Guide Untangles Legal Knots

A new Guide to help business and the arts untangle the legal issues of working together has been published by the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) in association with lawyer firm Ebsworth & Ebsworth.
AbaF says A Guide to Contracts for Business Arts Partnerships is a practical,user-friendly process to formalise business arts sponsorships and
partnerships. It combines the legal expertise of Ebsworth & Ebsworth with AbaF’s experience in partnership development.
Tony Scotford, a Senior Partner, with Ebsworth & Ebsworth says frustration and problems often result from business arts relationships that are not grounded by a clear contractual framework.
Scotford says the new publication will provide a contractual framework within which arts and business partners can easily operate.
The Guide provides a model contract that will help the partners to systematically identify what they are committing to do for each other, how they will do it, and how they will measure the outcomes.
There is also an example of a contract, and a blank template which organisations can use to complete their own contract.
AbaF’s Executive Director, Winsome McCaughey says there has been no guide to the tricky matter of formalising the relationship in a contract until now.
She says this Guide builds on AbaF’s other publications for business and the arts that set out the business case approach to finding partners and forming
partnerships.
The Guide was launched at Ebsworth’s Melbourne office two weeks ago by Sue Nattrass, the President of the Australian Entertainment Industry Association, a former CEO of the Victorian Arts Centre and former Artistic Director of Melbourne International Festival of the Arts.
A Guide to Contracts for Business Arts Partnerships can be purchased for $30. If you would like an electronic order form just send us an e-mail to corpnews@probonoaustralia.com.au.
