Philanthropy Australia - Grantmaking Essentials

Corporate grantmakers have the opportunity to take part in two professional development seminars in Sydney and Melbourne next month presented by the peak body for the national philanthropic sector, Philanthropy Australia.

Grantmaking Essentials: practice, policy, priorities is tailored to the interests and skill levels of every participant, and combines formal presentation, dialogue, plus the practical application of information, samples and examples.

Leading Australian trainer, Genevieve Timmons leads the seminars, and brings to this work the experience of 15 years of grantmaking, as an executive manager, consultant and trainer both in Australia and internationally.

As a consultant in philanthropy, she is engaged by grantmakers on a wide variety of assignments, including the design of new funding structures; identification of appropriate grantmaking policy and practice; the conduct of ‘philanthropy audits’, review and forward planning exercises; evaluation; and facilitation of professional development seminars.

Genevieve is a Senior Fellow of the Johns Hopkins International Fellows in Philanthropy, a Fellow of Leadership Victoria, and is conducting relevant post- graduate research at the University of Melbourne.

In addition, Vanessa Meachen brings specialist information from 4 years of experience as the Research and Information Officer with Philanthropy Australia.

As a core staff member, Vanessa has been responsible for delivery of membership publications and products, such as User Guides and Fact Sheets, and applying the use of technology tools. She has taken a key role in responding to wide-ranging public and member queries from Australia and internationally, requiring a thorough knowledge of the trends and challenges encountered by grantmakers and systems and tools available to enhance the practice of grantmaking.

These intense one-day workshops provides:

Membership

Philanthropy Australia’s mission is to promote and protect the interests of family, private, corporate and community giving in Australia.

As a member of Philanthropy Australia, you will be part of the philanthropic ‘voice’ which promotes and protects giving and volunteering. Philanthropy Australia works to improve public understanding and recognition of the relationship between philanthropy and the wellbeing of the community.

Philanthropy Australia membership offers a range of services and products to bodies and individuals that are grantmakers/givers or are combined grantmakers and grantseekers.

There are several types of membership: Full, Associate and Affiliate.

Full membership is open to individuals or bodies whose philanthropic activities are primarily grantmaking/giving. Fees for Full Members are based on the total philanthropic disbursements made by individual persons or bodies in a financial year.

The Associate category of membership is open to individuals or bodies whose philanthropic activities are not primarily grantmaking. The Fee is $1,100 per annum (includes GST).

Affiliate Membership is available to non-grantmaking bodies that have a clear involvement in the philanthropic or broader not-for-profit sectors through the promotion of these sectors; undertaking research into them; or the provision of educative services (eg university Schools, Centres or Departments offering courses or research in philanthropy and the not-for-profit sector philanthropic trusts and foundations that have not yet commenced distributing funds. The fee is $550 including GST.
