Housekeeping Christmas 2002

The Pro Bono Australia team of Karen Mahlab, Karen Burr, Elise Schimmelbusch and myself would like to wish you all a safe and prosperous festive season and New Year. 2002 has certainly been a big one for Pro Bono Australia and we thank you all for your support.

Christmas Cheer

Our Christmas cheer competition has been won by Donna Riley, Manager Corporate Services for CAF Australia. Here’s her story …and it goes straight to the heart of our prize….The Star Office 6 package from Microsystems!

Earlier this year I attended several meetings with some very enthusiastic Sun Microsystems Senior Managers and Staff. We were discussing their CCI activities and were looking at the launch of a great new program for Sun & their employees to be able to support their preferred charities in the community.

At a later similar meeting between Senior Managers, a work colleague of mine (name not mentioned to avoid future embarrassment) was joining us at the meeting for the first time. He/she decided to kick off the discussion by acknowledging.. and I quote “It is very apparent that there is an extremely strong culture of giving and sense of community within Sun Microsoft ……” (I failed to hear the remaining words)

Well the look on their faces! I quickly interjected to politely correct my colleague, stating that it was in fact Sun Microsystems that we were speaking with. Thankfully along with the strong sense of community came a strong sense of humour, with resulting jokes and laughter about secret mergers. (ahhhhh a sigh of relief)… This certainly set the tone for a very relaxed and productive meeting.

The new program was launched just last month. In deed no offence was obviously taken by my colleagues slip of the tongue!
Just goes to show we are all human.

Thanks Donna – your prize is on its way to you.
