Promoting Venture Philanthropy
1 July 2002 at 1:07 pm
Some observers say that venture philanthropy is no more than a new term for describing existing methods of philanthropy and social investment. Is this so, or does it offer new opportunities for mutually rewarding cooperation between entrepreneurs and the Not for Profit sector?
With venture philanthropy being a relatively new concept in Australia its principles and techniques will be discussed in a top-level seminar hosted by Swinburne University’s Asia pacific Centre for Philanthropy and Social Investment.
The afternoon event will take place in Melbourne on Monday 15 July 2002.
The keynote speaker will be Lee Davis – the co-founder and co-director of the Nonprofit Enterprise and Self-Sustainability Team (NESsT), an organisation based in Chile and Hungary committed to strengthening the financial viability of social society organisations in Central Europe and Latin America.
Davis has previously held teaching and research positions at universities and institutions in the United States and Europe. His expertise is venture philanthropy and this will be his first visit to Australia.
The seminar will also look at two entrepreneurs of venture philanthropy as well as panel discussions around project ‘hypotheticals’.
