GreenNet Program to Raise Community Funds
3 June 2002 at 1:06 pm
A new community phone program called GreenNet is set to become a major earner for community groups by the end of the year according to Earth Share Australia.
The program has been extended to allow community groups that use New Tel via the GreenNet program as their telecommunications provider, to receive a commission when they or any of their members, suppliers, sponsors or supporters join the GreenNet program.
Earth Share says GreenNet can now be used as a major fund raising tool by community groups. Formerly only Earth Share received funds from the program.
Earth Share’s Executive Director, Mr Chris Harris says that the revised arrangements offered highly competitive communications rates to Not for Profits and companies that chose to be part of the GreenNet program, as well as the payment of a monthly commission based on each customers expenditure.
Harris says that currently forty NFPs and companies have joined the program and a small but growing number of individuals, with revenues having grown by nearly 50% in the last month. About 10 community groups are already receiving revenues from the program.
He says one South Australian community group has had four companies commit to the program, which will deliver that group a significant monthly income on a regular basis, based not only on its own telecommunications expenditure but also those of its partners that have signed up.
The program pays any participating community group a five per cent commission based on their expenditure on long distance, fixed to mobile and mobile calls each month. Individuals and businesses that participate can nominate a community group or project to receive this commission.
Harris says New Tel’s rates are very competitive in the market place which also allows many organisations and businesses to join the program based purely on the commercial basis that they will save money on their phone bills.
