Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is a new initiative designed to support the accelerated development of high impact social ventures in Australia.
SVA has been founded and funded by a partnership between the AMP Foundation, The Benevolent Society, The Smith Family and Work Ventures.
In 2002 SVA will be running The Big Boost which will provide the opportunity for a short-listed group of social ventures to receive funding from a pool of $250,000 provided by the AMP Foundation.
It is intended that up to five ventures will receive funding, with the successful recipients to be announced at a presentation dinner to be held in November.
The challenge is to find and support the most innovative ideas to address issues in the social sector, from the environment and education to employment and indigenous issues.
The Founding CEO of the Social Ventures Australia Michael Traill has a background in venture capital with the Macquarie Bank.
Details of events around Australia will be released in coming weeks with information on their new web site. Check it out at www.socialventures.com.au.
