Electronic Networking 2002 - Building Community

The latest in electronic community networking across Australia, New Zealand and beyond will be showcased in a community networking conference in Melbourne in July.
Monash University’s Centre for Community Networking Research (CCNR) will host the conference, aimed at people in community organisations, government and business who are interested in enriching communities through accessible electronic networking.
The aim of the 2002 conference is to energise practitioners, policy makers, academics and business people; and engage delegates in the various issues of community networking.
It will include 70 presentations by Australian and international speakers, preconference workshops, panel sessions, keynotes and social events.
The Conference Committee hopes that participants will take part in the formation of an electronic networking alliance to reflect the diversity of skills and interests in Australia and beyond and learn from others’ experiences about the different ways that community organisations are using the internet.
Keynote speakers include Ron Faris, consultant with Joint Federal – Provincial Learning Communities Initiative in British Columbia, Canada, Steve Fox who is active in UK community networking through the Manor & Castle Multimedia Company (MEDIAC) and Australian Gill Sellar of 1 <2> 1 (One-to-One) Education, Software and I.T.
Conference themes include advocacy and political action; community building, education, learning, and community networking; the digital divide; and government networks for the community.
