New NFP Guide to Internet Services
19 March 2002 at 12:03 pm

At their most basic level, Application Service Providers or ASPs rent the usage of specific software applications, which are delivered over the Web to the ASP’s customers. If you need help assessing the software tools available for Not for Profit organisations through ASPs then a new US guide offers a timesaving overview.

Co-authored by Michael Stein and John Kenyon, two of America’s recognised technology strategists and published by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, it’s a guide to software tools made available by ASPs no matter what country you live in.

The book includes a beginner’s guide to online software, a directory of over one hundred services, and a detailed planning tool for evaluating and selecting an Application Service Provider. If you are raising your eyes to the ceiling, take a breath because the guide also offers tips and steps on how to go about the whole process.

Cristina Chan CPNS Special Projects Director says an ASP is a technology company that delivers software tools over the Internet. Those that that focus on the Not for Profit sector offer services such as credit card processing, web site content management, and membership list management.

She says these online software tools are transforming the way the Internet is being used by many Dot Orgs.

Co-author, Michael Stein says ASP’s have a huge influence on how NFP’s are managing their web sites and their e-mail outreach. The guide helps those that are new to online software understand what’s out there, what they really need and how to make a good selection.

The aim is to let Not for Profits make strategic, sound and informed decisions about technology – not just when to use but when not to use it!

The guide is FREE and available from Pro Bono Australia electronically in PDF form. If your organisation would like a copy just send us an e-mail to probono@probonoaustralia.com.au.
