Social Entrepreneurs Conference
6 February 2002 at 12:02 pm

The second Australia/New Zealand Social Entrepreneurs Conference titled “Working at the Sharp End” will take place in Melbourne on March 4 and 5.

One of the many international and local guest speakers is James Smith, the Director of the School of Social Entrepreneurs in London. He will lead a stream of new thinking on learning, teaching, and training people in communities to take up social entrepreneurship.

The Social Entrepreneurs Network says this conference will shape the agenda for social entrepreneurs in 2002, explore emerging partnerships with governments, corporates, universities, social investors, and community agencies, and celebrate the success stories.

The conference devotes an afternoon to an initiative to encourage social entrepreneurs in business. It offers panel discussion and case studies on the topic of Social Entrepreneurship and the Culture of Business. The panel will consider where business is heading and what concepts such as corporate citizenship, triple bottom line, and social auditing mean for social entrepreneurs.

This year’s Conference will also include the presentation of four awards at a special dinner on March 4 including the top award for Social Entrepreneur of the Year. The other awards include Most Promising New Social Venture, Best Support Role and Best Media Story on a Social Venture or Social Entrepreneurship.

Their purpose is to honour those doing cutting edge work in creating and supporting new solutions to alleviate disadvantage, strengthen community and generate wealth and wellbeing.

Nominations for the awards close on February 15th.
