Stamp of Approval for Australian Volunteers

Here’s a novel way for volunteer organisations to commemorate the IYV 2001 festivities…. Australia Post has launched a range of unique personalised stamps promoting the tireless contribution of volunteers to Australia society.

The new stamps enable individual volunteers to have their photo reproduced onto a specially designed collectable sheet of stamps honouring them and their organisation!

The Australia Post initiative was launched in Sydney by Clean Up Australia Chairman, Ian Keirnan. He was joined by a range of Australia’s major volunteer organisations including Surf Life Saving Australia, St. John Ambulance Australia (NSW), Country Women’s Association, Mental Illness Education Australia, State Emergency Service and Scouts Australia.

Ian Kieran described the initiative as memorable, saying it will help organisations to identify and applaud the work of the faceless millions of Australians who contribute so much to so many each year.

David Maiden from Australia Post says the opportunity to create personalised stamps for volunteers and their organisations is an exciting challenge for its Philatelic Design team.

The souvenir sheet of 10 personalised stamps are valid Australian postage stamps with a tab or segment attached to the side featuring either a picture of an individual volunteer or an organisation’s logo.

There’s a fundraising bonus in it as well. Australia post says it will donate $2.00 for every sheet sold to an individual volunteering organisation, following a minimum purchase of ten sheets.

Sheets are available to volunteer organisations at a discounted price of $12 each. The minimum purchase is ten sheets.

Volunteers’ photographs must be vertical and 10cm by 15cm and suitable for reproduction. Australia Post wants volunteer organisations to promote the offer to their members, and look after sorting and assessing the photos and money to speed up the process.

Volunteer organisations interested in taking up the Australia post offer should contact Susan Hyde, Service Manager Personalised Stamps, by e-mail to susan.hyde@auspost.com.au.

And let us know how your stamps turn out! Drop us an e-mail to probono@probonoaustralia.com.au.
