Charity Law Conference
12 June 2001 at 1:06 pm
Lawyers from the Commonwealth Pacific rim will be the first to discuss the recommendations on the definition of Charity at a Conference to be convened in Brisbane in October.
‘Charity Law in the Pacific’ aims to examine jurisprudence, administration and the use of the definition of charities in Commonwealth Pacific regions.
Organiser, Prof Myles McGregor-Lowndes, from the Program of Nonprofit Corporations at the Queensland University of Technology says the timing of the conference is crucial as the Inquiry into the Definition of Charities will have presented it findings to the federal Government after a year long investigation.
One of the key speakers at the Conference is a Commissioner with the inquiry, Robert Fitzgerald QC.
Another key speaker who will deliver the WA Lee Equity lecture is Hubert Picarda who is the leading QC on charity law in the United Kingdom.
While the Conference is by invitation only the Australian and New Zealand Third Sector research Association will publish a special edition of ‘Third Sector Review’ highlighting papers from the Conference.
