IT Students Offer Free Work to NFP's

If your organisation is still struggling to get up to speed on a web site or reorganise your database or if you just don’t know what you need in the Information Systems world…help is at hand from final year IT students at the University of Melbourne.

The project called Making IT Work for You involves a team of 5 final-year IT students ‘working’ with your organisation as a ‘client’. The projects could be database design and preparing a prototype, or web site plus database “back-end” design and development or even systems requirements.

There is no fee associated with the project, just a regular involvement by you with the student project during July to October.

Project Liaison Officer Jon Pearce says students will provide a report, prototype system or software ‘product’ depending on the nature of your organisation’s project.

Pearce says this offer is also available to industry as well as NFP’s and there is a great buzz from interacting with some of Australia’s brightest young IT professionals.

Pearce says in the past projects have varied enormously from developing a help-desk system for a publicity firm to developing an alumni database for a primary school.

Not for Profits should get in quickly because the deadline for project work is on Wednesday May 30th, just two days away.
